Sporting Clays, Trap, 35-yard pistol & 100-200 yard rifle bays.  Sun mountain gun club strives to give all skill levels top-notch shooting practice in a spectacular natural setting and to provide a safe, fun environment to enjoy the great outdoors.

American trap is governed by the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA). Sun Mountain Gun Club hosts several registered matches each year. Please visit our event calendar page for a list of matches or contact our Club staff. If you would like to learn more about the game of trap, please visit the ATA web site.

Sporting Clays

Sun Mountain Gun Club offers a sporting clay course that will certainly challenge all shooters. It has 14 regularly updated stations.

Sporting Clays is the closest thing to actual field shooting of all shotgun sports. Rather than having clay birds thrown from standardized distances and angles as with Skeet or Trap, Sporting Clays courses are designed to simulate the hunting of ducks, pheasants, other upland game birds, and even rabbits. Since there is no set season and it can be shot at any time, many hunters shoot Sporting Clays to further their wing-shooting skills during the off-season. Targets may be thrown from literally any angle or distance to simulate wing-shooting and 6 different sizes of clay targets are used to further give the shooter the experience of actual hunting conditions.

Trap

American TRAP is another popular event at Sun Mountain Gun Club. We offer two trap fields, including single, double wobble and doubles.

Trap shooting was originally developed, in part, to augment bird hunting and to provide a method of practice for bird hunters. The use of targets was introduced as a replacement for live pigeon-shooting.

The first formal trap shoot took place in Cincinnati Ohio in 1831, using live birds. With the advent of glass ball targets, and eventually clay disc targets, the sport began to take on the popular form of the game known today as Trap.

Pistol Bays

Sun Mountain Gun Club offers four 35-yard pistol bays. Sun Mountain Gun Club Pistol Range is unlike any other in Central California. Our outdoor venue features a total of four pistol bays, which are designed to provide our shooting guests a comfortable shooting position, without obstructing the natural backdrop.

Sun Mountain Gun Club’s qualified staff is committed to assist shooters of any experience level and make your visit a safe and enjoyable one.

FYI: Stands must be purchased from Sun Mountain Gun Club. You are welcome to take them and reuse them as many times as you’d like.

We will now allow shotguns to be shot on the pistol/rifle ranges as long as you pick up your hulls and wads.

We suggest calling ahead to make a reservation for pistol bays and rifle range.
